upholster my heart

(via)
I don't know if it's called Bohemian or Eclectic, but I've always loved when furniture is upholstered in vintage looking fabric. The ottoman above is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. This piece is from Cisco Brothers

These chairs (another Cisco Brothers piece) remind me of a scarf of mine. It's this beautiful vintage Indian Sari fabric that is green, orange, and blue. The way the colors fade from one to another is so pretty.

Anthropologie always puts together such beautiful rooms with these great upholstered pieces. I love these rooms, but I couldn't live in them. I don't think they're conducive to Jackson 5 dance parties.

16 miles strong

This past weekend was my birthday weekend. I spent most of it recovering from my birthday night. I won't go into how awful I felt for two whole days. But, yesterday I woke up happy and back to normal. And, since birthday wishes do come true, I got my pretty blue bike! Yesterday afternoon Scott and I went for a bike ride over to Bolivar Peninsula.

I love riding the ferry from Galveston to Bolivar (and back). The birds ride along with us in hopes of getting any crumb of bread they can. It seemed like a great time to ride because the sky was overcast, making the island cool but humid.

After the long 8 miles one way, we headed back to the ferry. We took a short break at Fort Travis Seashore Park.

I know that as a kid I went to all these different parks, and I'm sure at one point was told the history. But, it didn't hit me until a couple of years ago, that these forts were built to protect the Texas Gulf Coast during World War I and II. Now it almost seems silly that another country would storm the beaches of Galveston.

Even though it might seem like Scott is dancing, he is actually killing mosquitoes. There were millions in the field between the fortress and this old pillbox.

The view from inside the pillbox.

The ferry ride back to Galveston. You can tell from the pictures that the clouds left. We were riding our bikes against the wind on the way back, so it didn't seem that hot. That is, until we got back on the ferry. We were out in the sun too long and turned into lobsters.

I got my first official chain grease tattoo. Yeah, I'm a cool kid now.

Our tomatoes!

Three little peppers.

Gigi was checking out my mojito plant this morning. I call it my mojito plant because I've got mint and stevia (I'm going to muddle the leaves in with the mint instead of adding sugar) growing together.
